## Why here

Muscat feels different from other Gulf cities. Building heights are kept low, the old harbour at Muttrah still has its souq and corniche, and the Hajar Mountains drop almost straight into the sea. For groups that want the Gulf's hospitality standards without the skyscrapers, it is an easy sell.

The city works well as a base. Beach resorts and business hotels sit within half an hour of the airport, and the classic Omani landscapes are realistic day or overnight trips: the dunes of the Wahiba (Sharqiya) Sands, the turquoise pools of Wadi Shab, and the terraced villages of Jebel Akhdar with the old fort town of Nizwa on the way.

The season is the key planning point. From October to April days are warm and evenings are pleasant enough for dinners outdoors; from May to September the coast is very hot and humid, so we move activities to early mornings, indoors or up to the mountains. Omani hospitality is famously warm and unhurried, and we build programmes that respect local customs on dress, alcohol and prayer times.

## Areas we work in

Shatti Al Qurum for beach hotels, the corniche and dining; Al Mouj for the marina, golf and newer waterfront hotels close to the airport; Muttrah for the souq, the corniche and the old harbour; Bandar Jissah and Jebel Sifah for secluded coastal resorts south-east of the city. Popular excursions: Wahiba Sands for desert camps, Wadi Shab on the coast road to Sur, and Jebel Akhdar and Nizwa in the mountains.

## Questions

### Do guests need a visa for Oman?

It depends on each guest's passport. Many nationalities can travel with an eVisa issued online before departure, and some can enter visa-free for short stays, but the lists and conditions change from time to time. Our visa guide at /en/visa-guide gives an overview; send us the passport nationalities in your group and we will check the current rules for each one before you book flights.

### How easy is it to fly to Muscat?

Muscat International Airport (MCT) is about 20 to 30 minutes from most city hotels. There are direct flights from Istanbul and from Gulf hubs such as Dubai, Doha and Riyadh, and direct or one-stop connections from major European cities. Flight times on this page are approximate; we check schedules for your dates and can split a group across several flights.

### When is the best time to hold an event in Muscat?

October to April. Days are warm and evenings are comfortable for outdoor dinners and desert trips. From May to September the coast is very hot and humid, so we keep outdoor activities to early mornings, move them indoors or plan them in the mountains, where temperatures are noticeably lower.

### What should guests know about dress code and alcohol?

Oman is welcoming and fairly relaxed, but modest dress is expected in public: shoulders and knees covered in the souq, villages and city streets. Swimwear is fine at hotel pools and beaches. Visitors to mosques, including the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, follow a stricter dress code, and women cover their hair. Alcohol is served in licensed hotels, restaurants and bars, but drinking in public places is not allowed and there is zero tolerance for drink-driving. We always plan attractive alcohol-free options.

### How does Ramadan affect a programme in Oman?

Ramadan follows the lunar calendar and moves about 11 days earlier each year; in 2027 it is expected to fall from around early February to early March, depending on the sighting of the moon. During the month, eating, drinking and smoking in public during daylight hours is not permitted, working hours are shorter and some venues change their opening times. Hotels continue to serve guests, and an iftar dinner at sunset can be a memorable part of the programme. We share the expected dates when you plan.

### Can we combine Muscat with the desert and the mountains?

Yes, and most groups do. The Wahiba Sands are about three hours' drive from Muscat, Wadi Shab about two hours down the coast, and Jebel Akhdar about two and a half hours inland, with Nizwa's fort and souq on the way. A four-day programme can include one night at a desert camp or a mountain resort without long days on the road.
