Teams of five or six start with an empty work station and a boxed bicycle frame. Wheels, pedals, saddle, bell and helmet are earned through quick challenges: a logic puzzle, a quiz about the receiving school, a timed relay. Once a team has its parts, a mechanic shows them the basics and they assemble, adjust and test-ride the bike in a short course across the room.

Our mechanics check every bicycle for safety before it is signed off. Teams then write a card for the child who will receive it. We arrange the recipients in advance with a school, children's home or registered charity in the city where the event takes place.

Where the school allows, a group of children comes to the venue to collect their bikes; otherwise we deliver them and send you photos and a thank-you letter from the school. It is a quiet, practical session that suits mixed groups and conference afternoons.
