A simulated hiker has gone missing on the mountain. Teams form a rescue operation with a command post, search teams, a medical team and a logistics team. Professional mountain instructors teach the essential techniques, from radio protocol and simple navigation to stretcher handling, and supervise every activity.
Search teams cover their sectors and report back, the command post builds the picture and decides where to send resources, and the medical and logistics teams prepare to stabilise and carry the "casualty" (a training mannequin) to a safe point. New information and complications arrive throughout the exercise.
The facilitator observes communication between the teams and leads a debrief at base: how did information reach the command post, how were priorities set, and what made the handovers work?
