Bodrum castle and marina hunt

The hunt starts inside the Castle of St Peter, where teams look for coats of arms carved by the knights who built it in the fifteenth century. From there the route runs along the harbour front, through the old town lanes behind the bazaar and around to the marina, where a boatyard still builds wooden gulets by hand.

Clues are delivered on a game app, and some tasks happen in person: tying a sailor's knot under a skipper's eye, identifying a sponge at a shop that has sold them for decades, or finding the remains of the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus a few streets inland. Photo and video tasks earn bonus points and end up in the slideshow.

We finish at a beach club or on a moored gulet with drinks at sunset and an awards moment. We avoid the midday heat in summer and schedule the hunt for late afternoon.
